Set Up Databricks
Introduction
In our last blog, we guided you on how to sign up for a free AWS account and how to navigate your AWS Management Console. Now, let’s go a step higher and start a Databricks Workspace employing the Quick Start on your AWS account.
Step 1: Create a Databricks Account
First, go to DataBricks and kick it off. Go to the following link https://www.databricks.com/try-databricks ; enter your first name, last name, email ID, company title and phone number. Complete the necessary fields and press “Continue. ”
Step 2: Choose a Cloud Provider
On the next page you will be offered to select a cloud provider to work with. Because we’re using Databricks on top of AWS, set “Amazon Web Services” and press “Continue”.
Step 3: Verify Your Email
You will also get a confirmation mail on the e-mail address you have provided. Enter the free trial account by going through the link that you receive in the email.
Step 4: Set a Password
After confirming your email, you will be redirected to the page where you have to create a password for the Databricks account. Type the desired password strongly, type the password again and click the button ‘Set Password’.
Step 5: Select a Subscription Plan
After that, you will be offered to choose one of the subscription plans. You have three options: Standard, Premium and Professional. For sorting, the Standard plan is enough but for the recommended at least the Premium plan, which offers Databricks SQL, auto-scaling, RBAC as well.
Step 6: Confirm Your Details
Once the client has chosen their subscription plan, they will be required to input some information. Click “Continue” to proceed.
Step 7: Set Up Your Workspace
You will be taken to another page where you set your first workspace. Provide a workspace name and choose your AWS region then click on ‘Start Quickstart.’
Step 8: Create a Stack on AWS
You will be taken to AWS Management Console where you will be required to deploy a stack. Provide a name for the stack and enter your Databricks account email and password and your workspace name. Once you’re ready, click on the “Create Stack” button.
Step 9: Wait for Stack Creation
Wait until the stack creation has been finished. To perform this, it may take some time to complete, however, you can observe the progress from the AWS Management Console.
Step 10: Access Your Databricks Workspace
After that, go back to the Databricks Workspace page and refresh the page if the stack creation is done. You will now have to see the newly created workspace here with the status ‘Running’. Click on the workspace and then you enter the credentials to login.
